Find a Job Now!

Bored at work? Feeling languid and uninspired? Or maybe you just need a job. Well it's time to get off the couch and find the job you want, it wont come to you! And please don't fear, job searching is now accessible from the comfort of your own home via the internet, just like dating.

1. Large Job Sites

Recruiters like to use national job sites because they bring a wide range of resumes. Some common ones are: Monster, Careerbuilder, Simplyhired, and Dice (if you are more techie).

Pros: These sites will help you can find a wide range of job opportunities and you can search across the country.

Cons: You are a small fish in a big pond as these sites attract a lot of resumes. The key here is to make yourself stand out of the crowd, which you can do by writing a kick ass cover letter (more about this later on).

2. Local Job Sites

Many companies use local job sites because they are cheaper to post on and they bring in more local talent. To find your local job board do a Google search for "job boards in insert your zip code here".

Pros: These sites will show you local jobs only, great if you don't want to relocate. Also less competition since job seekers are usually locals only.

Cons: Sometimes limited opportunities, especially of you live in a smaller town.

Make the most out of these sites by checking back regularly!

3. College Boards

College job boards are not just for college students. A lot of companies will post on them to attract fresh talent. Check our your local college's website for employment opportunities!

Pros: Large and small companies post here, usually a wide range of job opportunities. Great way to find entry level jobs and positions that require little or no experience.

Cons: Lots of competition from fresh faced graduates.

4. Referrals

Referrals are probably one of the most underrated and most powerful ways to find a job, especially in today's fircely competitive market. LinkedIn is a great resource, if you don't have a LinkedIn account get one now. Not only can you network with that super successful college friend but you can get people to refer you, Recruiters eat up that kind of stuff.

Word of mouth is another underrated feature. Many companies have a bonus referral program for employees who successfully refer candidates. And personally I love hiring referrals, they make some of the best employees! Talk to your friends and family, the key point is to ASK. If you don't ask you wont receive.

So now you know. There are plenty of places to find the right job for you, so let the searching begin. Now all you have to do is apply. More on that later.
